Years ago I was reading a post on the Fantorical blog, a fellow traveller in the Analogue Hobbies painting challenge some time ago and he mentioned star trek miniatures and I said I had some citadel 25mm figures from a film tie in from about 1980 in the loft and that he was welcome to them, eventually, some years later I retrieved them from the loft and proposed to send them to him and he had some 28mm painted figures for the ECW from a project that had fallen by the wayside if I wanted them , I posted the star treck figures but Blax dropped the figures over as they were too heavy to post, I dug out some bloodbowl and other figures, he felt he had the better part of the deal,as did I,nice result!
So four troops of horse and with the addition of half a dozen spare Essex figures I can make up six more regiments of foot, two units of dragoons ( in addition to the two I'm working on at the moment?!) A whole load of command ( including a poodle)The only thing I'm not sure of is the Jacobite artillery from the 18th century ,artillery is the one area I'm already short of, so I'll have to sort this out for both armies I guess? I have a cunning plan that will give me siege weapons that can be used for the 17th century and also the 16th. A useful addition that almost doubles the size of my non Covenanter forces, the style is different and is actually quite detailed, I like it so I shan't be changing any of it but I do wonder who the manufacturer is? So at least wargaming figures ( even if I haven't painted any!) You'll see these chaps again once they've been cleaned( they're a bit dusty)and rebased with the handful of Essex figures painted, anybody need some painted 28mm Jacobite artillery? I promise I won't take three years to post them!

From having a very good look at them I would say that what you have there are from the early Front Rank 25mm ECW range now long out of production, they certainly have that look about them, the faces for example and sculpting style. Some of the musketeers have that scalloped edged 'flap' partially covering the apostles, something I only ever saw on the FR range although it was shown in at least one illustration that I remember seeing. I had a large collection of the FR ECW's (which of course I later sold!) one of the best codes was described as 'Popham's horse' the classic back/breast/lobster and buff coat cavalry figure. Anyway, that's my guess, the Essex range is still available - now re marketed as 28mm! - but I'm pretty sure they are not them, although it's a possibility. Anyone else remember the FR ECW 25mm range? Probably talking mid/late Eighties from my somewhat frazzled memory.

Oh, that's a terrific haul. Don't know the different ranges well enough to pick out what's what, but my sense from the sculpting is that they're an older range. Did Essex do ECW in 28mm?

I think I agree with you Iain - it looks like you got the better side of this deal - mind you, I dont know what "some" Citadel figures means in terms of numbers - so perhaps it was a more even swap than it seems! Either way, a great addition to your ECW collection.
ReplyDeleteWell there was a pile of star treck figures and some citadel spacefarers, some 15mm citadel traveller figures, some citadel gangster figures, 2 boxes,2nd edition space hulk and 1st edition bloodbowl with a metal dwarf team and a pile of old white dwarfs, but as I'm mostly historical they're not much use to me whereas the pike and shot stuff definitely is!

Currently a mash up of Victory Without Quarter and Command & Colours (the Prometheus ECW variant) plus a few extra bits thrown in. But as always on the look out for the 'perfect' rules.
DeleteI did do a bit of play testing for FKaP but it developed away from where I wanted it to go - too many tokens / book-keeping. I have been considering pinching the activation system from the Nashcon Charge of the Light Brigade rules which are freely available online.
It's the continuous search for the holy grail,the perfect ruleset! I like For King and Parliament as it's nice and rapid,I like pike and shot because it's big and messy, I liked bits of victory without quarter but ended up going back to pike and shot!
