French 9th hussars Napoleonic 16

Here we have the first of two Napoleonic French hussar units, this one is the 9th, pretty uniforms and they were at Wagram so they're in! Perry plastic, they go together nicely, I appear to have done too many colpacks for both units, but who can resist them! Full dress for 1809 in my usual fast and dirty fashion, even so they do take a long time to do, fun though!

I think the out of focus effect just adds to the sense of speed, don't you agree?! Oh well good enough and done, there are more French hussars and  Austrian cuirassiers and infantry in the pipeline, then I really have to knuckle down to some French line infantry as I'm going to be putting a Napoleonic game on when I go to stay with my sister and family over Christmas, supplying both sides, nothing like a deadline to help you focus!
All the best Iain

  1. Excellent work Iain, another great looking unit, and nice variation in the horses. Sounds like a large game you are putting on, deadlines can be useful, and hope all goes according to plan.

  4. That is a very pretty uniform, and beautifully done Iain. There is usually a distinguishable theme between hussar regiments but the thing that surprised me was how different the French regiments appear.

    1. Thanks Joe, I try and bring in some lighter colours, so that they differentiate from the heavy cavalry, glad you noticed!

  10. Awesome Hussars, Iain! The 9th's uniform is my favorite - ever since seeing it in the Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars in Color book by Cassin-Scott.

  12. Hussars are my most fav troop type of the Napoleonic period. They just look grand, with uniforms full of exciting flair, sabres waving. These guys really look good Iain and must have taken quite a while to get finished up. The result though is worth the effort, this is such a good looking unit - bravo!

  14. Great work on these French Hussards Iain....they really do have some very dandified uniforms, don't they? Austrian hussars are similar...multi coloured shakos amongst the mix!
