Austrian Chevauleger regiment no 2 Hohenzollern Napoleonic 7

Here are 12 Foundry Napoleonic Austrian Chevauleger. I wanted at least one unit in green coats,so here we have regiment no 2 Hohenzollern, as they are Foundry they are a little bit diminutive compared to say Perry or Warlord so even though the bridle would suggest they are dragoons, I have decided to make them lighter cavalry on smaller horses, another unit will be along shortly in the more common white uniform, also Foundry,  both purchased from Colonel Bill's at Salute a few years back. The flag is from the Perry plastic set, those will be along at some point,I thought I'd finished them until I  saw an illustration showing the standard bearers pole, which necessitated repainting post basing! I  started these ages ago but taking part in Dave's" paint what you've got" challenge has meant I've finally finished them in spite of starting the Analogue Hobbies painting challenge ,which is a result!

So more Austrians to come, mounted and on foot, and a Happy New Year to all who pass by this blog!

All the best Iain

  2. They look great Iain, and nice work on the flagpole as well. That looks like an exercise in frustration, but you have pulled it off magnificently. I know what you mean by the Foundry figures being slightly smaller than Perry, but they don't look that far off in separate units on the same table and at least were sculpted by the Perry twins in the first place.

    1. Yes, just done another flag pole! Really the figures aren't thst far off,it's just the horses that you notice the difference, I treated myself to a Foundry cuirassier unit a while ago, I now have 3 plastic cuirassier units and there is a bit of a difference, the Perry's will be mounted on 2mm and I'll double up to 4mm for the Foundry and maybe slip a bit of plastic under them too!

  4. Good work, Iain! In 15mm, I avoid the the candy cane stripes by simply painting the pole black.

  8. Very nice indeed Iain. It's a few years now since I painted my Austrian troops, I must admit, I was over the white coated infantry after twelve or fifteen battalions, but the cavalry were a bit more varied!

    1. Thanks Keith, I've moved onto the infantry, I'm finding the white coats somewhat reassuring for some reason, lets see how long that lasts!

  9. Iain, you are a terrible influence; these lovelies are doing nothing good for my resolution NOT to start napoleonics in 28mm. Nice work ;)

  11. A fine looking unit Iain…
The Austrian flag poles always look good…but they are indeed a pain to paint.

    All the best. Aly

  12. Wow! That's some colourful Napoleonic cavalry at no mistake, Iain, and very well painted indeed. Assembled as a unit they really do look the business. :-)

  13. A lovely unit, Ian! All my Austrian Chevaulegers are Minifigs, and all in green coats; no white allowed. That is reserved for the Dragoons, despite the crazy scheme the Hofkreigsrat decreed! :-)

I haven't done the barber poles for my Austrian Cavalry units. Hmmm...

  17. Splendid looking unit and I'm surprised that the Foundry figures are smaller the Perry's.
