Dux Bellorum 6 Last unit of elderly Pagan English

Here is the final unit of pagan English for my Dux Bellorum army.
These  are a mix of a final Black tree design that I found after I'd painted all the rest ,a couple of Ebay purchases and seven figures from the 1970s that were painted in enamels, Ral Partha and Asgard and were regularly used as characters and non player characters in D&D games.
I've given them a wash ,touched up the metal here and there and painted the flesh in my usual elf flesh which I have almost used up,bit worrying as I think GW stopped making it years ago and I haven't found a good substitute yet!





I've painted the shields to match the rest of the army.  They're not  terribly kosher as they're mostly Vikings or Varagnians but it uses up some figures that have spent 40 years sitting in various cardboard boxes in various lofts and finishes an army off!
Oh and I  know I'll have to finish the sabot bases off at some point!

    The figure with the raised shield (overhead) is both nicely posed and unusual. is that by chance as Asgard figure?

      Hi Norm, I don't know, he was part of a job lot of Ebay figures I got,he's actually an archer with an enormous shield which I didn't think worked so I gave him a spear instead, so no clearer!

    It warms my heart to see those Ral Parthas (I had the same figs back in the day: the fellows swinging their swords two handed from the waist--vikings, I believe). I'm still painting with enamels, though (never made the transition).

      I think the Ral Partha figures were some of the best 25mm figures sculpted, lovely details,I have quite a few, mostly renaissance and hope to paint more up in the future! I'm not the biggest fan of white spirits, although enamels have terrific opacity!

    Elderly pagan English immediately put me in mind of my father, who thankfully is still alive and in lockdown. Great job, and I was a big fan of the GW Elf flesh until I discovered the Foundry flesh triad, which when combined does not look too dissimilar.

    Great looking dark age warriors and a witty post title. One day, I’m gonna have to learn who this Ral Partha was, as I see it mentioned so often.
    GW has always had the worse names for its paint colors. 😀

Ral Partha were an American figure company in the late 1970s/80s at the time I thought oh well the US are going to dominate figure design for the foreseeable future, I'm mean there was a small company with a pair of twins in Nottingham but no way would they end up dominating figure design or anything. Don't take my advice about investing in anything, I'm not giving it! GW do have lousy names for paint, oh yes!

    Wonderful to see old figures re-purposed, I think many more of us should dig out older figures and do the same.
    Great looking 'rough' unit and the shields are probably suitable for a huge chunk of history.
