Archers Late Roman 6

Here is the last unit for my small  Late Roman army, a unit of Gripping Beast plastic archers, nice simple figures with enough detail, individualy mounted in 1ps and then on a 120mm sabot base from Warbases.

Pretty straightforward, I wouldn't mind doing some more, I might expand this or do another force?

Here's a little parade as the army as  its technically complete...yeah right! Actually, I'd like to do some unarmoured spearmen too. Originally for Dux Bellorum, the basing suits it for Midgard, although I'll need some heroes/champions and generals but I can pinch from other collections for that, I'm thinking of this as Coel Hen, the last Dux Britanniarum or old king Cole's army, it does remind me ,I could do with pimping my old airfix fort?

Great Italian wars, Napoleonics and dark ages fighting it out on the painting desk at the moment, plus a few AARs, not sure what will be done first!

All the best

 Iain

  4. Hi Iain, a nice force for Midgard. I did hear that Gripping Beast were retiring and so looking for buyers of their ranges. I don't know what that will mean for the plastics, buy buying now might be a preferred option.

  6. That's a nice little force Iain - my advice is - buy your heroes etc, paint them - and mark it as completed and move on! LOL
Is that the origin of Old King Cole in the nursery rhyme - I am going to have to go and Google/AI that now!

    1. Yes its the origin of the nursery rhyme, the thing is I have a fair bit of unpainted lead and plastic, I either expand this force or start a new one, maybe Vortigens, to add to/fight my Arthurian army, but that would mean Id have to buy some more figures?

  8. They look great Iain. As Norm says, I was quite taken aback at the news of Gripping Beast closing. I have a ton of Front Rank stuff and also a GB Republican Roman army ahead of me and always find myself buying extra when I pick up a project from the pile. Hopefully they will be picked up by someone.

  10. I like these guys. Though why are some wearing pork pies on their head? Handy place to store a snack for mid-battle tummy rumblings?

The army shot is cool. So much different stuff, very different to the classic Imperial uniform approach.

    1. They were the height of fashion in the fourth century, fur or fabric it seems, its a different kind of army to the early Imperial Roman army, both fun I think?

  12. Lovely work Iain and a great army.
Of course armies are quantum, sort of like Schrodinger's cat, complete and not complete at the same time 😁

  14. Nicely done Iain, they look great and a nice parade of your "completed" army. Hopefully GB's catalogue will be picked up by someone, I am sure it will be.
