French command Napoleonic 30

Here are two command stands. Murat , Ney and an aide de camp, Murat and Ney are Foundry, not sure of the ADC, similar size, they were part of the mixed command collection I picked up from ebay, Murat was fun, a bit like a fantasy figure to be honest and a nice contrast with Ney who I gave a grey coat to, to make him seem a bit more dour! I've added some plastic under all three of these to help them cope with their 28mm colleagues, I don't think the ADC 's horse is quite right, he's on a light cavalry mount but I figure he'd have to use whatever remount he can at some point?

The 28mm Perry figures are Marshal Soult and one of Murat's aide de camps converted from one of the spare chasseurs de cheval of the Imperial Guard figures I had, he seemed a bit big with Murat and the other ADC seemed a bit small with any of the Perry figures so that's why we have the arrangement we do, Murat's ADC's uniform is nice and bright and interestingly there are other Marshal's ADCs which are similarly coloured.

In my haste to photograph them I couldn't make it to the shed, so they we're photographed held at eye hight on a board in the kitchen, for the light, apologies for the background!

Next up more Napoleonics of course!

All the best

Iain

  1. Nice stands, when you said Foundry, I was going to ask how they scale up against 28’s as they have some interesting characters, but you answered that in the next paragraph - considering those thoughts, the match-up here is really good, nicely balanced.

    1. Thanks Norm, the command stands work fine next to each other I think, it's just on the same stand the Foundry figures are a bit Shetland pony by comparison!

  2. Nice work on all these Iain - I have been toying a mass purchase of French AND British command figures from Front Rank FOR YEARS! I have a few (all French) but I would like some more French and also a decent number of Brits, too. Its always fun to paint up a one off, individual figure of Wellington or "Black Bob" Crauford etc

    1. Thanks Keith, yes always a fun reward, command is, won't the postage kill you? I was pleasantly surprised that Perry do free postage if you spend £200 in the UK or £250 worldwide, it's easy to spend that much I find, every couple of years of course!

  3. Very nicely done Iain. Murat is always fun, always colorful but your description is even better. Such simple techniques to fix the size differences give such excellent results. Funnny how we save up command figures to do a painting splurge every once in awhile.

  4. Great work on the command figures Iain, and good idea adding some height on the base to make them fit in with your other models.

    1. Thanks Dave, yes it's just the horse height that needed making up.

  7. Lovely stuff Iain, beuatifully done. I always have to remind myself that the Perrys did the Foundry Napoleonic stuff and to me they still stand the test of time. Their own stuff is just that little bit larger, but I find it still mixes well.

    1. Thanks Lawrence, it does vary a bit, they're Foundry dark ages figures are much smaller but the Chasseur's a cheval were interchangeable, it's just the horses that are different!

  10. Lovely work Iain, especially Murat, what a character he was! On the painting side, I struggle with hussar uniforms (why I haven't painted a large scale one. My eyes and brush control are just not up to the detail required for a dolman and pelisse to look 'right'. I really need a wargames table French command group... maybe after the Bavarians and the 90mm lancer hmmmmm.

    1. Thanks, I have to admit my hussar work is at best Impressionistic, or downright sloppy to be honest, we need you to do a command stand!

  14. Lovely work on these, Iain. I would say Murat's costume is rather restrained, actually. I would have done him in amaranth, white, and gold! :-)

    1. Thanks Peter, I agree ,he had some extravagent outfits! Surely you have done him ,in among your vast crowd of Napoleonics? No room for the king of Naples?
