Napoleonic Austrian cuirassier regiment no 6 Napoleonic 12

These are cuirassier regiment no 6 Mack, assembled from the Perry plastic kit, nice to put together and I'm pretty happy with the white and how the unit has come out overall, I found an expensive liquatex artists acrylic with masses of pigment in the shed and tried that, when I am priming Austrians next I'll do it in white as I  have followed David's ( in the Analogue Hobbies painting challenge) advice and bought some contrast paints, but as I have a ton in black and grey, I'll stick to my new white for a bit though!

I like cavalry as I just bash out the horses rapidly, I'm in the middle of another unit of plastic cuirassiers, the trouble is I'm painting so many cavalry units that I'm going to have to expand my infantry numbers, mission creep? I guess so! Some Austrian artillery and command along soon.

All the best Iain

  1. These look great Iain and the images once again remind me that I may "need" more Austrian cavalry! But do I, when the current collection has only hit the table four or five times in maybe ten years..... thats why the cavalry expansion hasnt happened yet!

    1. Thanks Keith I know what you mean, I've barely played a game with this collection but as I'm collecting both sides ,I am determined to use them, even if its only solo!

  2. You must be really pleased with this unit, it does look the biz. The white you have used looks very deep ccoloured, if you get my drift. I always enlage photos to view the detail you've managed on these too.
    Well done !

  4. Great work on the unit Iain, the horses have a great variation between them, so looks very natural

  5. Those look great, Iain! I've been waiting on their plastic Russian cav set. Been over a year or so since the WIP post on their website.

  7. Lovely work on these Iain. That darker yellow you have used for the trim looks spot on to me.

    1. Thanks Lawrence, my trouble is I seem to enjoy painting cavalry more than infantry and the ratio of cavalry to infantry isn't as high as the other periods I paint!

  8. Considering you “bash the cavalry out” they look jolly smart Iain.

    1. Thanks Mark, I bash out the horses, these probably took an evening, the riders are just highlighted, using the black primer as shadow, so no shading or triads or washes,so I'm glad they're jolly smart!

  9. Lovely work on these. How are you finding the Perry figs? I'm in love with their 100YW range, myself.

    1. I've liked all the Perry plastic kits, especially the late 15th century mercenaries box, that's still my favourite but I really like the Austrian cavalry and infantry boxes, got they're 100YW boxes and will do them one day!

  10. Well, if the main issue is that you have to buy more infantry... I think that is a risk we all are ready to take!
But of course if you really enjoy cavalry over infantry, who am I to impose you anything!

  12. Mission creep is an acceptable risk to run in order to get more such fine mounted units like this. 😀

  13. So many in our hobby complain about painting cavalry because of the task to have to paint the horses, but you are the opposite. Interesting.

(Personally I don't have an opinion either way, though will admit to not having painted cavalry in years.)

Regarless Iain, another fine looking unit of horse!

    1. I just find painting the horse is a lot faster than painting the rider! Thanks Dai!
