Napoleonic 6, French dragoons 28th Regiment

We have another Napoleonic French dragoon unit ,multipose plastic from Perry Miniatures, lovely figures which I've enjoyed painting.

Same as before, primed black and then painting the colour as a highlight. I painted these horses and 36 others in an evening with a kind of wet brushing, fast and dirty and then clean the tack up with black at a later date, thought that might be of interest to you Keith as I know you have one or two horses to do!

The close ups are pretty harsh but I'm happy enough with them, this takes me to three dragoon regiments, red, yellow and orange facings so far, I think I will do one more, probably pink but not for a while, I have Austrian Napoleonic cavalry on the painting table but some French Napoleonic hussars have swaggered onto the painting tray. I'm also assembling lots of Austrian cavalry and infantry, mostly plastic, so a little less painting but all still hobby time!
All the best

  2. Great looking Dragoons, Iain. Impressive amount of horse flesh you painted in one go. Dry-brushing over a black undercoat is good way to do this.

  7. Very smartly done Iain. I was thinking only this week what a relief it is that the French had black tack as it makes painting the horses so much easier.

  9. Excellent looking unit Iain, you mention different colour facings, was this a practice they did, or something you've done to differentiate units ?

    1. Thanks Dave! I'm following established facing colours, unlike my gendarmes there is less room to make things up in Napoleonics!

  10. Oooh, hussars are always fun - if they turn out as well as these, they'll be a treat.

  11. Lovely unit and well done with the subdued orage facing colour 0 always tricky (imho)to not 'tando' it.
I prefer the term 'rose' in place of 'pinl' for my Prussian 7yw figures! (much more manly)

  12. Great job! It’s fun when miniatures swagger isn’t it.
You’re gonna have tons of cav in the end. 😀

    1. Thanks Stew! Well if anyone is going to swagger it's going to be the hussars! I'm a bit worried I'm going to have too many but to solve that problem, I've bought lots more infantry!

    1. Thanks James! Even my wife commented on the lovely range of browns, while they were sitting in a box waiting to be based in the kitchen, I was looking out of the window, trying to work out where she could see one,let alone more horses when I, pleasantly realised she was praising my miniatures, unheard of!
