Great Italian wars 13 another Spanish colonela

Third time lucky, I keep losing this post when I try to upload more than one photo, anyway here we have the third of four Spanish colonelas the fourth unit is jostling with some french napoleonic line infantry and more Italian wars command to see who's next! These are once again old glory and foundry conquistadors and a couple of Perry plastics who have made up the numbers. All of them have been fun to paint. I really must address the absence of flags and once I have some I'll post all four units with flags flying!

Don't really know why the last photo got out of sync, it was the first!
All the best Iain

  1. I like these a lot, Iain! The barn red color of the jackets is a good, muted coloring scheme. Your work on the faces really brings the character out on these Spaniards.

    1. Oh, one more thing...I tend to be slow on adding flags to my Italian Wars project too. For me, it might be indecision and lack of period knowledge.

    2. Thanks Jonathan, yes I think the red works really well with Spanish troops of this period, I'm uming and aring about making my own or buying in and since I want four flags for each unit it's a lot of flags!

  3. Excellent! They look well-seasoned and like they mean business.

Flags are one of my weak points with miniatures. There's the issue with design, and then how to create them (printed on paper, painted, some other material, etc.), and then affixing them to a flagstaff. I have some minis sitting waiting for flags for literally decades.

    1. Thanks, I'm hoping it won't be decades but I'm ruling nothing out at the moment!

  4. Great stuff Iain, I would recommend Petes Italian Wars flags for the Spanish, they are really good. Just remember not to use any of the Saltires if you want them to represent the Spanish before 1504 as the Saltire came from the Burgundians via the Hapsburgs.

    1. I think you're right Oli, it's what I was thinking anyway, Petes flags do look good, they will be removable so I can mix and match, so thanks for that as you have confirmed what I was thinking!

  9. OG and Foundry have been around for a long time but they still paint up well. 10/10.
