WW2 German diversion

Michael Awdry  (of 28mm Victorian miniatures blog) has been working on a display game for Salute.  As the date was coming closer in March  he asked for a little help painting some figures and I was happy to oblige.
Now as we all know Salute hasn't happened this year so I didn't feel a desperate urgency to complete the figures but having finished the city walls they had pushed their way to the front of my painting que!
Here we have 10 SS late war Germans in a slightly impressionistic version of summer oak leaf camouflage.  I was lucky that I had at one time bought the entire range of Ospreys men at arms in publication at that time ( being a little obsessive can be a good thing?) since it meant I had a book on the SS and another on German military equipment as I found they were much more complicated than my previous Soviets!






They are now packed up ready to wing their way to Casa Awdry.
I rather enjoyed doing these chaps, which is a good thing as I will need to do some winter Germans to oppose my Soviets.
Next up will be something rather earlier in date!

      Thanks Peter, not as many as there are now but quite a lot, it was back when they were copperplate graphics, 1980s early 1990s,I'll have to check!

    Very nice Iain, the oak leaf camouflage came up well. Osprey 34, the Waffen SS by Martin Windrow?

      Thanks! I see what you mean, it's funny, they're daylight strips and usually they light up pretty well but it might be they're not high enough?

    This section should mix in well with the othe 'Schloss' troops headed Michael's way. The camo is a little difficult to make out but it's definetly there!

    Nice to see these figures pass your painting table. very nicely done and toned down. Looking forward to your WWII report when that happens. I have an unco-operative KV-1 kit on the ‘construction’ table right now.

    I love your versatility. You change subjects from medievals to ancients and now to WW2 and you keep both the pace and quality. No matter if it's a gaudy livery or an oak leaf camouflage, you manage to produce really interesting pieces all the time. That's quite an art!
