The final unknown eBay purchased figure also got an old glory head swap, the horses are equally mixed. The flag is from a Perry plastic set, overpainted a bit.
I quite like them as it goes, they really don't look the least bit uniform, which is all to the good!
There is another unit of mounted crossbow men in the que, together with another pike block, I'll probably finish some terrain before them though.
All the best Iain
Nice work once again!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Neatly ranked figures in identical poses and/or identical kit is fine for the right kinds of armies and units, but a good eclectic mix of figures works well for irregular units and armies.
Thanks Fitz! Yes the eclectic look suits them!

The look is spot on for the type and era--and the conversions are well done: a one of a kind band. The banner really adds the finishing touch. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed! I'm happy with the conversions and the banner has come out rather well!

Everybody's down on the Balkans ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, they had a certain reputation! Border horse of all kinds, whether from Northumberland or the Balkans tended to be adept at liberating a wide range of materials,no doubt misunderstood by those they encountered!

A great unit you have painted up there Iain, another useful addition to your Italian Wars collection.
ReplyDeleteThanks Oli! Yes a useful type for a variety of employers, three units so far, another unit of mounted crossbow men primed and I'd like to make a unit of jinnetts up like you did from the Perry plastic light cavalry set,got the bits and shields, just have to find time to do them!

Excellent bodging work Iain!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fran! Yes they have a distinct feel of bodgit and skarper!

A lovely irregular-looking unit Iain. Some of them almost have a Quixotic flavour to them, and one of the figures in the first picture even looks a little like a Sancho Panza.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence! Yes now you mention it I can see it too, windmills charge!

Lovely stradiots, nice mix of ranges and poses!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cyrus! Yes the mix of makes is actually helpful in this case!

I feel so special. It’s so boring being American, we have no cool phrases.
ReplyDeleteNicely done with the painting and the conversions, the figures came out great and ready for action on the table. 😀
Thanks Stew! I'm glad you're still entertained by the turn of phrase, you have plenty of cool phrases!

Everso behind on posts these days mate. Hills looks good!
ReplyDeleteTho not a fan of hills on tabletops unless one is playing 2mm or some such as really, a table would be a more realistic sized hill for larger scales imo.
I know what you mean as far as real scale is concerned but I guess we are in the representative world in wargaming, especially when in 28mm , rather than reality!
