Rebasing, yes it had to happen, here we have the unit that started this blog off, almost two years ago, plus twelve more that I've painted up to bring the basing more in line with all my other pikemen,a total of thirty six figures mostly Artizan(with a few odd unknown chunky types off eBay)
The flags are free downloads from Warflag and krigsspil which have turned out rather well I think.
I've shown them as one unit of thirty six figures but in fact they will be split in two as backing units to two units with levelled pikes to give me two units of thirty six pikes.
The next post will be all my landsknechts now with added flags!
All the best Iain
Very nice blocks of pike!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fitz,Im happy with them!

Lovely Landsknechts and flags!
ReplyDeleteCheers Cyrus! Thank you very much!

Lovely little pikemen. Great flags, I use the same sources for my flags, free but effective. I find that with a little care in cutting them out and especially gluing them together they do look very nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, yes the free download sites are pretty good for the Empire and Swiss, not too bad for the French but not so good for the Italian and Spanish. They do look good all stuck on!

Great pleasure to see your Landsknecht pikemen, Iain! Do you affix your flags to regular pikes or cut down staffs? I am pondering making my pike flags flagtastic (tm A Morrison) too but most of my pikemen are carrying, well, pikes!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan! I fix my flags,or slot them on, to ensigns and pikes as I like a lot of flags and that way I can spread them around, the old glory pikemen are great for this and I know you have a lot of them!

Those look absolutely superb! Yes, re-basing - it is the evil that has to be done but it's always worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jason
Thanks Jason! Yes it's rotten but the returns can be pretty good!

They look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean! That's very good of you to say so!

Very colourful Iain and the flags set them off all the better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray! I'm hoping to be able to use your splendid Flodden flags at some point in the future!

Fantastic figures Iain, some really great looking characters in there and the painting is perfect for them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee! They're nice chunky sculpts and certainly characterful!

Congratualtions on the rebasing, a task I reckon no-one likes.
ReplyDeleteThey look great en-masse and definetly thepose I preferred for my pikemen.
Thanks Joe! Surely no one likes rebasing! These standing poses are going to be used to reinforce my levelled pikes I'm afraid!

I always think that re-basing is one of those thankless tasks best avoided, but these look great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence! I agree, but I'm happy with how they've turned out and at least I'll be able to use them!

I like the density on the base, exactly right for pike. There are some real characters in there. I forget which blog I saw it on (was it Robbies?), but anyway, they had their levelled pike on deep bases that protected the full length of the levelled pike, but under the pikes, on that open ground, they had put a casualty, it looked really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm! I agree there are some real characters in there!
DeleteBest Iain
Oh Nuts! I have just tabbed back and realised it was your work with the casualty under the pikes … Doh!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Norm! I'm actually going to be combining these with the levelled pikemen in the next post.

Successful rebasing! The flags do look the part.
ReplyDeleteI like you idea of putting these behind others with leveled piles; that is going to appear bad ass. 😀
Thanks Stew! I too hope it will appear"bad ass"!(Wow do I sound pompous or what!)

They look great Ian...
ReplyDeleteI was well worth the effort... and pain.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly,yes worth the pain, literal with this unit as they came with Northstar pointy pikes as opposed to my blunt florists wire which I've used on virtually all my other pikemen, very ouchy!

Wow! Impressive sight all them pokey sticks wobbling about in the air. Its a wonder they didnt get all tangled up in the heat of battle.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! Health and safety 16th century style?
