Great Italian wars 8, pike and crossbow

So I've finally finished three pike blocks that I will use as French,Swiss, Italian maybe even Scottish for Flodden, might be pushing it a bit but close enough in my book! There are also  some more crossbow men for the French. Actually looking at them I think they would be pretty good for Marignano as far as the  style is concerned, a little old fashioned but close enough.
The figures are all Perry plastics mercenaries/bills and bows  boxes with a smattering of metal Perry Swiss and 16th century heads , they are my favourite plastic figures by some way. They all will need flags of one kind or another too.

Next? Maybe the Spanish? Or some napoleonic French or a baggage train?
All the best Iain

  1. Iain! You have been hard at work! That is a fine bunch of troops for your Great Italian Wars project. What rules are you planning to use?

What next gets you closer to a game? Spanish or French Napoleonics?

    1. Closer to a game? I don't know we're going to give chosen men a go first (Napoleonic skirmish )and I have painted 3 24 figure battalions of French line infantry which I am in the process of basing and I would have to paint some light cavalry, which might take some time, we're playing lion rampant with my war of the roses troops so maybe I should do the Spanish and try lion rampant 16th century! Main rules will be pike and shot as we use it for ecw although I do have a soft spot for impetus.

  5. That is a great looking pike block Iain! (That Perry box is just brilliant, isn't it?) They just need some brave banners to finish them off and then you can send them to their fates. :)

  7. Pardon the late comment, Iain, but these are marvelous and inspirational. Your work has definitely made me decide to get a box of these too.

  8. Oh yes! You'd make a great job on the best box Perry do, pike, crossbow, shot and even a lovely swordsman arm set plus pavisses where could you go wrong? I expect to see them by Friday! Assembled, painted flocked with banners and no doubt some cunning magnets!
