This is a unit of Uhlans ,regiment no 1 Merveldt for the 1809 campaign based on the left over Perry plastic British light dragoons in the later uniform with overalls mounted on Warlord ECW plastic horses and with a mixture of Victrix and Warlord lancers arms. Their czapkas are more campaign look, more like this Rick Scollins illustration
The next unit will have full dress .
I always liked the rather business like uniform of the Uhlans. I might well use this unit as the Brunswick Uhlans for an 1809 campaign Ive been thinking of depicting the duke of Brunswicks small force fighting its way to the coast, I already have the French provisional dragoon unit and have three primed Westphalian infantry units, its more should I use my nephews Peninsular Brunswick units or should I go with 1809 correct units? Currently on a train journey from London to Marrakesh, so comments might be sporadic!
Not sure what next?
All the best
Iain

Fantastic looking cavalry unit Iain, the parts blend together seamlessly to make up the unit. Hope you have a good trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, I think they work pretty well, having a good trip, just heading across to Tangiers!

Quite a dynamic presentation of these lancers. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteYes they do look like theyre moving dont they? Thanks Jonathan!

Nice work Iain, I was just thinking about lancers yesterday, of course Polish rather than Austrians. Sounds like an interesting train journey 👍
ReplyDeleteI like a train journey, you get to see the countries you travel through and more pleasant than flying, Im going to use some more british light dragoons and the perry plastic Russian uhlans to make up my two duchy of Warsaw uhlan units, you could get the perry French chasseurs set and add the perry lancer arms then you would just meed czapkas, or you could just get the warlord set for Vistula lancers!

Just picked up some warlord figures off eBay at avery reasonable price 🙂
DeleteGreat, Ive got the warlord French lancers, not for 1809 but ghey were a secret santa present and I did say any French cavalry, decent set my only quible is with the commanders metal horse, you need a support under it, even if in the image they use he hasnt got one ss it just collapses! Paint up nicely though!

I admire the way you manage to find a use for all the left over Perry "bits", Iain. The train journey sounds very exotic....hopefully no ladies vanish en route!
ReplyDeletePlanning and being super tight, I could have just bought them in metal from the Perrys but wheres the fun in that?! The lady vanishes, a classic, thankfully hasnt happened!

Excellent Uhlans!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike!

Well done on the minis! Very dynamic indeed! I can almost hear the thunder of the hooves.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the train journey to Marrakesh does sound very interesting and exotic! (and brings the song to mind) Bon voyage!
Thanks Fitz, interestingly the horses arent that dynamic so I guess its just the riders doing that? All aboard the train, lots of medieval architecture coming up!

Lovely poses on those lads. You do get about a bit old fruit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, thought of you as I was rattling along the TGV from the gar de Lyon heading to Barcelona, nice countryside!

Ian,
ReplyDeleteAdding to the refrain, great looking unit, very dynamic poses. I am as usual impressed with your using the odds and sods of a bit box. To build the unit.
Joe
Thanks Joe,its fun playing with the bits box!

Whilst not the most ardent fan or student of Napoleonics, I am a fan of the lighter and typically visually interesting (IMO) cavalry types - the Uhlans and Hussars. Those flashy uniforms are just fun and seem exciting prospects to paint up.
ReplyDeleteThese chaps are very cool and the mix of parts is not noticeable to my untrained eye at all. Nicely done Iain!
Thanks Dai, yes the Austrian light horse are particularly dashing I think?
