Christmas games

We had a couple of games over Christmas. First up was a game of Balins tomb from the Lord of the Rings GW franchise that Des had painted up . I got the Fellowship, although none of the Fellowship had so far survived in any of their previous games!

The goblins kept coming and I kept killing them and found out that hobbits dont last long ! I tried to keep other members of the fellowship around them but by turn 12, the final go, I'd lost enough that I couldn't surround Frodo, I was lucky that the cave troll didn't turn up until the last go and of course meant I got to say " They have a cave troll" which was fun! I thought I was going to get through and win but on almost the last roll Des managed to kill Frodo but was unable to kill the rest of the Fellowship so we ended up with an entertaining draw. A fun skirmish game and difficult to get anything out of it with the Fellowship, nice figures.       Next up on Boxing day we had a game of Bolt action . We came up with a couple of forces,a US and German one to go with the terrain and said whoever was in occupation of the town square at the end of turn four would be the winner.

Jack chose to be the Germans and I was given the US forces, Des umpired it as we havent played that much of Bolt Action 3.

I managed to get in and under cover relatively rapidly, Jack was more circumspect, I realised I needed to get rid of his armoured cars as they were a big threat and having eliminated those and a few other units I was ahead by the time turn 4 came around, he didnt really have many units near the square whereas I had a number, plus due to the vagaries bolt action  activation, all of his force were activated while I still had five units left to activate so I kind of easily won but great fun all round and nice to get the terrain on the table, I did think maybe I need to do a bit of work to tie the church in with the other terrain, what do you think?

The highlight of Christmas, 25 of us were in a house in Dolgellau for the festivities and then we found out what was made there! Des standing by the sign.
Happy New Year to you all and something Napoleonic next up probably!
All the best
Iain

  1. Some fantastic looking games Iain, that was a bit ironic being in the vicinity of Milliput factory ! LOL

  2. Your building collection can now put on a really convincing town layout. The Church? It probably needs a tie in probably best served by applying muted colours, but I do think a church needs to be different enough to stand out as a key building, just dampening down the vibrancy may be enough.

    1. I agree! Your ruined town terrain is properly ruined! The photos all look very convincing.

  3. Two very different games but both looked good fun. Your terrain on the Bolt Action game looks great, and I think Norm has hit the nail on the head regards to the church.

  4. Some fun Christmas games there Iain, and great to see the new terrain in action. Good to see the Milliput factory is made out of bricks.

  5. Yes, looks like some fun gaming with cool minis, and great terrain for the Bolt Action game. Sounds like maybe the LOTR game doesn't make the hobbits resilient enough or something?

  6. Two great games there Iain and nice to see your ruins in action. For the church I think it needs a slate coloured roof to tone it down a bit, as it looks too 'clean' compared to the rest of the terrain.

  8. Good to see you keeping busy over the festive period - and I have to ask…what’s with the knight? A statue?

  9. Well, of course I have a soft spot for LoTR, but both games look good indeed!
