So we have a kind of filler post, what I like to call a Stew ( of A terrible loss of lead and wealth blog) filler as he is the master of such posts! This is a filler, filler chicken dinner post, all filler no killer , well not strictly true as they are casualty markers!
I used them in black primer for the Christmas game but have got around to painting them, some French line, some Italian ( I mean, I haven't painted any Austrians for a while so I need some white uniforms?)
And of course Confederation of the Rhine troops, Anhalt, Nassau and Shwarzbug Sanderhausen. To continue my packing/ riveting post I'll include pictures of my painting desk as all the cool kids seem to be doing it.
Blogger posted my painting desk/ tray and paints last, that's what's in the house , in the shed is lots of storage ( the ceates have terrain in them) books and I've been casting up Prince August horses to go with all my spare Perry plastic horsemen to give me three additional units of Austro-Hungarian Hussars, they're headless because I'm going to add spare plastic horse heads/necks, they're about the same size as Foundry horses so I think they're fine for light horse.
The next post will have something better in it , honest!
All the best
Iain
Casualty markers are ace. Enjoyed the trip around your hobby area (which on reflection sounds a bit rude), it’s always interesting to see a bit more of the world my blog buddies inhabit.
ReplyDeletep.s. Love the Stew comments too - he’s becoming a bit of a meme lately with his wicked sense of humour!
I love them too. Just waiting for the blogger groupies to start tempting me into affairs. 😀
DeleteThanks Mark, glad you liked the tour, unfortunately it doesn't finish in the gift store,Stew seems to like the additional exposure, which on reflection also sounds a bit unfortunate at least?!

I do like being exposed….😀
DeleteExcellent work on the causality markers Iain, and your work space looks very organised ( compared to mine ! LOL) and lots of great looking bits to come as well
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, I'm sure that's not the case!

I am quite glad I did that paint desk pic a few blogs back now, I have been happily surprised to see most other work areas are at least as messy and chaotic as my own....restores ones faith in humanity....thanks for sharing yours too Iain! I like the Prince August idea, the extra horsemen you get with some Perry sets a always irritate me....they seem a waste, but getting extra horses is so expensive, you might as well buy a whole extra box.....there are a lot of "extras" in that sentence !!
ReplyDeleteSee what you started! 😀
DeleteGlad you liked the tour, I already had some Prince August moulds from the 1970s, I damaged our kitchen worktop but luckily my dad didn't notice! So getting some horse moulds made sense, like you I hate waste, I've got enough Napoleonic riders for about six or seven units, which is a pretty major saving!

Lots of neat photos and the casualty markers certainly are well done. OK, since you have shared not only the painting table but also storage areas, I will need to bite the bullet and do a 'filler' article as well.
ReplyDeleteGo on Joe, you know you want too!

I like the casualty markers as a combo of visual and dice, I recently bought some of those casualty discs from warbases with the lever that moves up the casualty wheel (Have I even slight explained that clearly!) - anyway, now I can’t decide whether to use them or go with your dice combo!
ReplyDeleteI got some of the casualty discs from Salute as a freebie and have used them with a figure mounted on them, I'm quite happy using both!

Casualty markers look great, and an interesrting tour of the rest of your wargames environment, Ian!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Peter!

Beautiful looking markers sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal!

Excellent work on the casualty markers. Seeing your workspace, perhaps I can muster the courage to photograph mine? Maybe not...
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan, go on it can't be that bad!

Lovely work Iain. I won't be posting a picture of my painting area as I am sure that it would give any viewer the impression I have serious mental issues.
ReplyDeleteI think chaos is an essential part of the creative process, that's what I keep on telling myself anyway!
DeleteBest Iain
Excellent casualty markers and a very organised painting desk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cyrus,I wouldn't go that far!
DeleteBest Iain
I most certainly wouldn't call this a filler post! I found the casualties truly enjoyable by themselves, and the tour through your sancta sanctorum is more than a valuable bonus!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suber, that's very kind of you!
DeleteBest Iain
I know a filler post when I see one. 😀
ReplyDeleteThe markers look great and any game table appearance is enhanced by cool markers rather than dice or chits.
Fun look around the painting desk. But NOBODY said anything about pics of the storage. Or lead piles. I would need several posts and many pics for the lead pile.
😀
Call it whatever you like😀😀
Named in your honour! It does look better with decent markers ,I entirely agree, I haven't included storage, this is just immediate stuff for playing/working on, storage is in the loft, I don't think I'll do that!

Matt Crump has left a new comment on your post 'Casualty markers Napoleonic 27':
ReplyDeleteNice markers and of course it is interesting for us to see our own little hobby spaces. Casting horses seems a big effort very impressive 👍
Although, clearly Blogger isn't letting that happen? Thanks Matt, I had a free afternoon when my wife needed the house for work( collective noun for psychotherapists? Not sure, a Freud?) so I cast the horses some infantry and some artillery,to feature later, probably much later!

I’m thinking I need to make some similarly nifty markers for my own games.
ReplyDeleteStew is turning into quite the blogosphere attention junkie. Soon enough he will start charging us to leave comments on his blog!
I think they're useful and tidy the table up, I've done an even more simple one now without the figure that I can use for all periods , Stews everywhere, like a rash!

Nice idea Iain, I have been working on ideas around casualty markers but can't settle on a final one. Your books fascinate me, I am a sucker for historical information.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I like the figures but I'm doing even simpler ones, I think I'll just mix the two! Really the wargaming is just an excuse for my book addiction!

Well done, great 'filler' post and the casualty markers willno doubt do the job they're meant to. I do like the tour of your painting ares etc but surely htis could have been a second post or reserved for a future filler post ? (always good in my experience tohave a post held in reserve for those dry times).
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe! I figured I'd better post the tour now before it's too passe!
