War of three Kingdoms 9, rebasing Covenanters

That dreaded phrase, rebasing, it had to happen so that I could use my Covenanters in For King and Parliament as they were just too big for the grids,it also meant they're a bit more flexible. They're almost all Warlord plastics and we're painted a while ago, with a lightly converted Warlord Cromwell leading them, they were finished at the double as we had a game of Pike and Shot coming up, although they didn't make it to the table. In the pictures is a couple of them on the table, their basing being a bit closer now, what I have found is that my roads almost exactly match the basing ,which means they're almost invisible! I think I'll have to give them a darker wash or something!

Next up? Pike and shot AAR as painting has largely ceased for the moment, in favour of  gaming and prepping  !
All the best

  1. Nice to see the regiments grouped. Good idea to switch over to prepping, this hot weather has knocked my painting schedule and gaming schedule as I am under glass …… 36 today!

    1. Thanks Norm! Yes it's just easier to be cutting things off of sprues and gluing together!

  3. I like your rebasing and the exercise is not without benefits. It is like getting a whole new army without painting!

  5. Och, they're a brae set 'o laddies. Are the new bases 40 or 50mm?

    1. They're actually 45mm! They need to be that big to get six pikemen on for my Italian wars and the 1p sabot bases are about 45mm so I can use them all together!

    1. You are clearly better at planning than me! I was seduced by the big bases in the warlord pike and shot book, but then found I couldn't fit them in the grid for ,For king and Parliament!

    2. I ahve been lucky so far - most of my armies use a basing scale the group I started playing with 25 yaers ago used - 6 units on 30mm wide by 40mm deep. Mark changed some time back to units of 18 figures om three bases 60mm wide - but luckily his three bases are still the same overall width as six at thirty.... For grid based, we just use what will fit - so a normal pike and shot unit might have four bases of pike in a double rank, flanked by two bases of musketeers - so we just use half the bases and they fit in the squares (this also ahs the advantage of doubling the potential size of your collection - 6 base cavalry units become two units of three bases etc)

  8. Well done! I must say basing is on of my favorite part of mini making. I like making detailed bases.

  9. Nice job on the rebasing; probably worth it in the end. Probably. Too bad they didn’t make it to the table but now ready for next time. 😀
Getting in games instead of painting is a nice position.

    1. No ,definitely worth it as I can use it for both the systems we use and the big bases were just too unwieldy, also the base finish has been improved, nice to get in games, one a week, I'm exhausted!

  10. Yeah, rebasing might be tricky. However the figures look awesome, so you did a great work on them!

  14. Ahh, the joys of rebasing figures can be summed up in one word:- NONE !
There is a certain joy in getting it done though and you've made a good job of these, matches your terrain beautifully.
