Here are a couple of warlord games mounted commander's, Essex on the grey and Wallenstein, who I know is a thirty years war commander but I like the sculpt and he's close enough for me, plus in moments of megalomania I plan on expanding into the 30 year's war so he will be fine and it will be Essex who will be pretending to be Swedish or Spanish or French or some kind of German!
I rather like both these figures from warlord, it's the extremely dynamic ones I have trouble with ,their Fairfax and Gustavus Adolfus I have real problems with as they just seem a bit silly!
A useful pair, next up ,pike and shot horse units or some trees, not sure which!
All the best Iain
Excellent work on your commanders Iain, the detail and colours on the horses highlight the commanders really well
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave! Nice sculpts, makes them easier to paint!

Very effective highlighting in the armour.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Norm!

Nice work! With Wallenstein finished, time to begin your 30YW armies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan! Well as far as I'm concerned it's mostly changing flags! I'm working on a couple of cuirassier units at the moment, not that common in the ECW but very necessary for the 30 years war!

Well done, splendid painting and basing...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Phil!

Lovely work Iain and, as Norm has noted, the armour looks especially good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence! Glad you like them!

Excellent command stands!
ReplyDeleteA couple of very nice commanders Iain and I totally agree about overly "dynamic" figures....I think one Gustavus Adolphus figure has him charging to his death or something similar....I can't see the point in sculpting a gaming figure in such a specific pose....
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith! Yes that's exactly the one I was talking about, kind of pointless!

Beautiful work sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Michal!

The faces are amazing
ReplyDeleteThanks! Just base coat, wash and highlight but the sculpts are nice!

Cool commanders Iain and great that you will be able to use them in a number of armies. Cheers Greg
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg! Nice to get at least double usage out them !

Lovely models with great painting and basing. Very impressive hedges in your last post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat! Glad you like the hedges too!

Great sculpts and excellent paint job. Horse flesh and armour particularly well done Iain.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee! Not up to your horse flesh quality yet,but I'm working on it!

Nice, they look totally in place, I find these two to be pretty interesting minis.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Suber!

Very nicely done. May they serve you well. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Stew! I certainly hope so!

Good work Iain a nice figure. I hope one day to start my own ECW project but no space at the moment 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt! Surely there is room in the basement somewhere?!

great beautiful command bases, I like the color of the complexion is very natural
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ronin!

Nicely done Iain...
ReplyDeleteAs a rule I prefer my commanders to look dignified... leading a charge can be cool but careering to your own demise it just silly...
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly! Dignity always dignity! Was that the cowardly lion's quote? Sounds like my generals!

Good choices for commanders and I approve thoroughly the use of 'anachronistic' figures! Lovie the horses colouring and the detail on the ocmmanders.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe! Good to be able to use them for a range of armies!

I love command stands - both making them, and seeing what other people come up with. People always put a little more effort into the painting and composition. These guys look great, and I applaud your 30yw ambition. There's not point in having projects if we can't scale them up beyond reason or measure ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcus! Indeed, vaulting ambition, bordering on hubris, that's the ticket!

Wonderful looking Pike & Shot commanders, Iain. I agree about some of the Warlord Games poses, but these are great. I am currently reading my newly acquired Pike & Shot rulebook. I know practically nothing about the period.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean! I'm really looking forward to what you're going to do in the period, you could always do the Italian wars, you'd be great at that and no doubt finished in no time!

Splendid commanders, Iain! The sculpt is very nice, and the rider in a dark horse is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dmitry! Wallenstein is a really nice sculpt!

Both look excellent, Iain, and very adaptable for ECW or TYW..
ReplyDelete"I'm working on a couple of cuirassier units at the moment, not that common in the ECW but very necessary for the 30 years war!"
I'd say you're al;ready commmited to the TYW extension, and yiou're right, a change of flags is almost enougfh aside from a few specific types like Croats or Poles.
Thanks Peter! Indeed, I have the flags and yes Croats will probably come along funds permitting, I really fancy a Polish army but that's not one or two units and of course I would have to do Ottomans then,....!

Nice! My Royalist commanders didn't roll well in the recent P&S game but still it was King's victory!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jan
Thanks Jan! Good to win, even when the dice are against you!

I like the sculpts and I like the paintjobs. How many more commander stands do you need?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! I'm probably alright now,I just didn't want every army to be commanded by Cromwell or Charles 1!
