Bolt action Soviets 8 and bolt action Germans 1, the generosity of bloggers

Some time ago Lee from a figure painting therapy blog got in touch because he was getting rid of his bolt action Soviets and knew I was still collecting them, he'd previously been kind enough to send me a surplus primed and assemled T34/85 and I was able at a later date to supply him with George  Gush's WRG renaissance warfare rules which I had held onto since the 1970's but was never going to use, he was after a copy to go with his delightful retro ECW project. As this was a clearout I got primed figures, unassembled figures and finished figures, before he sent them he said he was chucking in some winter Germans as he couldn't face ebaying them, so I  got all these from Lee:

I am well chuffed, I've finally got around to rebasing them to match the rest of my bolt action collection, it's only taken  four years! Obviously since then I  have bought some more figures to expand this force, although there's more than these Germans in raw plastic plus more Soviets. In addition I got these from Norm at Battlefields and Warriors blog for my Valour and Fortitude games which is very kind of him.

A post filled with the Christmas spirit of gifting that I have been the lucky recipient of!

All the best

Iain

  2. Marvellous stuff, Iain. This definitely shows off the best in this great hobby of ours. They look absolutely cracking. I do like the playing cards too. Made me do a search of eBay to see how much they go for. LOL!!

  7. The models and figures look great Iain, and I really like the playing cards. I have a couple of copies of the George Gush rules on my shelf and really enjoyed playing them back in the day.

  12. That's a nice little force of Germans to start with! I have ALWAYS maintained two forces for EVERY game I've ever been interested - makes it easier to find people to play with - if they don't have to come up with a force of their own just to try it out!
I should have a go at the second edition rules... (I haven't played since first edition!?)

    1. It's certainly better to have an opposing force and I generally have but hadn't bothered for bolt action, now fortuitously one has fallen in my lap! There doesn't seem to be a great deal of fundamental change, more a series of twraks, I've got a copy of first edition which I use with a 2nd edition quick reference sheet while my nephew has the second edition and I'll defer to him if there is anything different but we haven't come across much!
